Design Concept by Design Clinic
"Climate Stories" is a foldable outdoor structure for low-income Indian schools promoting climate literacy through play-based learning and creative storytelling. Within the outdoor structure are wooden props representing objects in emergency kits for climate crises specific to India, like floods and heatwaves. As children use these props while storytelling, they familiarize themselves with these objects in the context of climate change.

RESEARCH AND IDEATION
In India, low and middle-income schools lack supplemental materials specifically addressing rights-based quality education about climate change. We were interested in exploring climate education through play, performance, and storytelling all while providing a cooling, shaded space where they can engage in this.
FEATURES - STRUCTURE
It is a mobile educational unit, unfolding to provide an 8’ x 8’ shaded learning space outdoors, specifically targeting low and middle-income schools. Using this structure, students will engage in creative storytelling about climate issues. It is meant to integrate seamlessly in the existing public speaking English curriculum by adding climate narratives for students to read.
FEATURES - PROPS
Within the mobile unit are emergency kit themed wooden props that children interact with while storytelling. These props represent objects within emergency kits like ice packs and whistles, tailored to Indian climate disasters like floods and heatwaves. These props allow children to familiarize themselves with emergency objects through play. Each prop is accompanied by its respective educational card.
